Former Barcelona star Jose Carrasco has stated that he fears for the future of Lionel Messi with the Catalans after his recent spat with club director Eric Abidal. The former Barcelona defender accused some players of not working hard enough under Ernesto Valverde, something that didn’t go down too well with club captain, Messi.
The Argentine, in response, hit back at his former teammate via Instagram, stating that the Frenchman should be revealing names when making such a grave accusation: “I think that when someone mentions players, they should give names because if they don’t, they are tarring everyone with the same brush and fuelling gossip – a lot of which is not true.”
As a result of all this, former Barcelona star Carrasco has stated that the former Newell’s youngster might have one of his foot outside the Camp Nou after his row with Eric Abidal.
“He’s ill at ease,” he was quoted as saying by AS.
“In all the years I’ve been watching him and have loved the way he plays […], it’s the first time Messi has looked to me like he has one foot out of the door. I’ve never had to say that before.”
While there is a chance for Messi to depart the Camp Nou, it would be unlikely that the Catalans would allow such a PR disaster to take place.
