Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed that the players at the Camp Nou discussed the possibility of Neymar joining Real Madrid. The Brazilian was the subject of intense speculation over the course of the summer and it wasn’t helped by the player himself openly admitting to wanting to leave the club.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona were the touted destination for the former Santos star but he ended up staying at PSG ultimately. And now, Gerard Pique has revealed that the players at the Camp Nou discussed the possibility of him joining arch-rivals Madrid.
“More than fear, there was that possibility and it is true that we discussed it in the locker room, but in the end it was Neymar’s decision, he stayed in Paris and I hope he does his best, the relationship with him is fantastic,” MD quoted as saying.
Following the win against Getafe, Pique suggested that the board had leaked stories about players have too much power to the press. Messi then went on to claim that he wasn’t aware beforehand about Pique saying that to the press.
As a result, Pique was asked whether there is a lack of coordination between him and Messi but the Catalan defender denied it.
“My actions are predetermined because I choose at all times what I say and when I stop saying. Leo is the captain and has his speech, but I think it’s a speech aligned with the one in the locker room.
“We have known each other since I was 13 years old and I would say that it is with him that I get along better in the locker room. I don’t think it’s a matter of lack of coordination.”
