Barcelona boss, Ernesto Valverde, is excited to face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final, claiming that it will be a ‘fascinating tie.’ Barcelona and Real Madrid comfortably brushed aside their quarter-final rivals, Sevilla and Girona, respectively, to set up the tournament’s most mouth-watering clash.
The clubs will play the first leg at Camp Nou on Wednesday with the return leg then taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu on February 26.
Valverde, whose side beat Real Madrid 5-1 at Camp Nou earlier this season, feels it’ll be a fascinating contest between the two biggest teams in Spain.
“It will be a great tie between two great teams who are both fighting to win La Liga and the Champions League,” said Valverde, as quoted by Daily Mail.
“All of this makes for an excellent spectacle for both the teams and the fans alike. It is bound to be a fascinating tie and it will be interesting to see who makes it through to the final.”
“They were going through a poor run of form in the league but they have turned it around and we know that it will be a tough match.”
The Spaniard then turned his attention towards Barcelona’s most immediate challenge, Valencia.
He added: “Valencia are once again looking very good in front of goal.”
“It reminds me of how they were last year; they started the season in fine form. Their approach has been very similar this year and they look a lot more confident in front of goal and they are taking their chances and climbing the table.”
