Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has made a huge claim, revealing that he hopes Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi will be able to shrug off his injury and play in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals on Wednesday night.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is doubtful for the upcoming El Clasico clash due to a thigh injury he picked up during their 2-2 draw with Valencia over the weekend. Solari though believes that in games like these the “best players need to play.”

“Always best if the best players take part in the big games. This is a game between two great rivals. They are two different competitions. We want to win everything and we will take this game as seriously as any other. The most important thing is how we approach the game,” Solari said as quoted by Xinhua.

The Los Blancos after a poor start to the season have recently seen an upturn in form, with the club winning seven out of their last eight games, though with the exception of Sevilla, all those sides were ones they would usually be expected to beat.

However, the next two games could be vital for their season as following the Barcelona clash, they travel to the Wanda Metropolitano, where they will face rivals Atletico Madrid in the La Liga on Saturday.
