Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has challenged his players to improve even more despite their 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield in the Premier League last night, claiming that, “the team should not have to lose a game, to add motivation.”
Gonzalo Higuain and Eden Hazard scored a brace each, while David Luiz added a fifth goal for the Blues as they ran all over Huddersfield, thereby easing pressure on the Italian, who has come under criticism in recent times.
“We need to understand that, in the future, we should not have to lose a game to add motivation.
We need to improve in this, the consistency, the mentality. They were really very motivated, but we lost 4-0 in the last match, so they had to react. Now we have to understand that the level of motivation must be the same in every match,” he said as quoted by ESPN.
The Blues have won five, lost three and drawn one of their last nine matches in all competitions in 2019 and courtesy of this win once again find themselves in the top four of the league table, with 50 points from 25 games.
Chelsea and Sarri will hope to continue this form when they are next seen in action, against defending champions Manchester City in the league, on Sunday, the 10th of February.
