Footballing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has millions of fans all across the world, with many shocked by his decision to end his stay at Real Madrid after nine glorious years and move to the Serie A with Juventus.
The 34-year-old who moved to Juventus in a deal worth €110 million has been in brilliant form for his new club, netting 17 goals in just 22 appearances so far. The success of Ronaldo comes as no surprise, with the Italian giants not only reaping the benefits of his presence on the pitch, but off the pitch too.
According to the news, Juventus’ popularity has skyrocketed by more than 70 percent in China, with many ditching his former club Madrid, to follow the club he currently represents. Such is his fan following, that the Serie A club reportedly added 308,000 followers across the Twitter-like Weibo, social media and messaging app WeChat, and video app Douyin (known elsewhere as TikTok), in the week of his transfer last July.
That popularity has only grown in time, with the club’s following on Weibo jumping by 68.5 percent between July and December last year – which has not been affected despite the rape allegations against him.
Ronaldo is the most followed footballer on social media and there is no doubt that will only increase, as his performances on the pitch continue to improve as the season progresses.
