Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has said that he hopes to play alongside his former teammate Matthijs de Ligt again and added that he would try to entice him to join him at the Camp Nou.
De Jong agreed on a move to the Catalan giants in January for €75 million and was finally presented to the fans on Friday, but De Ligt is yet to reveal where he will be playing next season.
There is heavy competition to sign the centre-back, who emerged as one of the best defenders in Europe last season, as his performances were vital to Ajax winning the domestic double and having a dream run till the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Although Juventus are in the driving seat for his signature and look set to seal the deal soon, De Jong hopes to convince his teammate to join the Blaugrana.
He was asked during his presentation about his teammate’s uncertain future, but he said he had no idea about it, saying, “I was expecting this question,” as reported by Sport.
“Of course I would be happy to see [De Ligt] but it’s not up to me, he has to make the decision with his family and his agent. We will see where he goes.”
