AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has suggested that striker Gonzalo Higuain might leave the club in January, amid reported interest from Premier League side Chelsea, while also revealing that he will fight to keep the Argentinian at the San Siro.

The 31-year-old is currently on loan at Milan from Juventus but has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with it being understood that Maurizio Sarri is keen to reunite with him following their successful partnership at Napoli.

Gattuso believes that duo share a honest relationship and has made no bones of the fact that he would like to keep him at the club.

“We have a very open relationship, we say things to each other’s faces. There is great honesty. When a player makes certain choices, it becomes difficult to convince him otherwise. One can try,” he said as quoted by ESPN.

“At the moment, he is a Milan player and we’re holding on tight. I don’t know what will happen. We are honest with each other and I want him to maintain the same attitude, which has never been lacking.”

Higuain has scored eight goals for Milan in all competitions so far this season and has been named in their squad that will travel to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia to face Juventus in the Italian Supercup on Wednesday.
