Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari has backed star player Marcelo to come good following some indifferent displays off late, claiming that, the Brazilian is their “second captain” and “100 percent Real Madrid”.

The Brazilian has come under criticism from both fans and football pundits for his displays this season, with it being clear that he is struggling for form. The 30-year-old has made only 12 appearances in La Liga this campaign under Solari, though the Argentinian believes that he is a key component of their side going forward.

“Marcelo is the second captain. He is 100 per cent Real Madrid and we want to see his best form,” he said as quoted by Goal.

The left-back is also said to be unsettled at the Bernabeu, with it being reported that he is keen to leave the Los Blancos in the summer and reunite with former Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus.

Despite his struggles this season, there is no doubt that he is one of the best left-backs in the world as he was a key part of the side that won three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.

Marcelo is in his 13th season with the Los Blancos, during which he has made 475 appearances for them, helping the club win four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey’s and four Champions League honours.
