Spanish giants Barcelona suffered a scare after star player Lionel Messi appeared to suffer from a thigh problem minutes after scoring his second goal during their 2-2 draw with Valencia in the La Liga on Saturday.
Though Messi shaked the injury off and did complete the full ninety minutes, manager Ernesto Valverde has confirmed that the club’s talisman has an issue, though they are uncertain as to what the problem is and are hoping that he will be fit for their upcoming Copa del Rey semifinal clash against rivals Real Madrid.
“[Messi] has a small problem. I don’t know exactly what he has. We will have to wait to see what medical staff say. If he’s in good shape, he’ll play on Wednesday [against Madrid],” Valverde said post the game.
The 31-year-old was once again the star of the show for the Catalan giants, netting a brace for his side and has been in brilliant form this season, netting 29 goals in 27 appearances so far and is leading the race to once again top the scoring charts.
It should be remembered that Barcelona were without Messi for their El Clasico fixture back in October, but that did not let it affect them as they beat their rivals Real Madrid without him.
