According to reports in Spain, Lionel Messi has asked Barcelona to sack three senior figures at the club, including Eric Abidal, in order to see an improvement in results.

The club are going through something of an internal crisis and the Argentine is at the corner of most issues. After being involved in a spat with club director Eric Abidal, the club captain is believed to be “angry” at two more names in the club’s hierarchy.

According to Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Messi wants to see significant changes off the field if he is to stay at the club.

As per the report, Messi wants Abidal gone. The sporting director was openly critical of the squad earlier in the week, claiming they played their part in the sacking of former boss, Ernesto Valverde. There is also talk of Messi not renewing his contract as well if “things don’t change”.

The 32-year-old is also not pleased with Oscar Grau, the CEO who approves all signings. The Argentine is said to still be angered at the club for not bringing back Neymar over the summer.

Lastly, the little magician isn’t still convinced Quique Setien is the right man for Barcelona and would not approve the club extending his contract beyond 2022.

Barcelona’s January transfer activity has also come under scrutiny. They club failed to bring in an attacking replacement after losing Luis Suarez to long-term injury, and got dumped out of the Copa del Rey last week by Atletic Bilbao.

The defending champions find themselves playing catch up to Real Madrid at the summit of La Liga. They trail Los Blancos by three points at the summit, having lost four times in 22 matches.
