FC Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has called up 16-year-old Ansu Fati to La Blaugrana’s squad that will face Real Betis on Sunday.
Typically a forward, Fati plays for Victor Valdes’ Juvenil A side and has been training with Barcelona’s first team for just a week.
Injuries to Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez has forced Ernesto Valverde’s hand and opened up space for Fati and Abel Ruiz who will have the precious opportunity to make a name for themselves.
As reported by Marca, who quote Mundo Deportivo reveal interesting details of Fati’s career up till now by revealing that he arrived at Sevilla three years ago and moved to La Masia in his teenage years.
Born on October 31, 2002, if Fati (16 years and 298 days old) plays for Barcelona against Betis on Sunday, he will become the second youngest player in Barcelona’s history to feature in an official match.
Vicente Martinez was 16 years and 278 days old when he played during the 1941/42 season. Barcelona legend Messi is fifth on the list, making his competitive debut for the reigning Spanish champions aged 17 years and 114 days.
Fati has recently renewed his contract at the Catalan club until the summer of June 2022.
