Marcelo has been spending his vacations in Rio de Janerio after being overlooked by Tite for Brazil’s Copa America selection and while he is having fun in his hometown, the defender has ended up losing his driving license after refusing to undergo a breathalyzer test after he was stopped by officers at a police drink-driving checkpoint in Lagoa, Río.
It is not known whether the Real Madrid player was over the legal alcohol limit or not but Spanish publication AS quote O Globo in claiming that Marcelo refused to take the breathalyzer test, preferring instead to pay an on-the-spot fine of 2,934 reales (675 euros).
Since then, the Police informed the media of the incident and added that Marcelo has had his driving license seized and has also been banned from driving in Brazil for one year.
Point to be noted here is that it’s not the first time that Marcelo has been in trouble behind the wheel. In 2013, he was stopped by Madrid police after jumping a yield sign and found to be driving while he was disqualified for accumulation of penalty points.
Meanwhile, Marcelo’s future at Real Madrid is once again into question as the Brazilian maestro has reportedly asked Los Blancos to listen to offers for him this summer.
