3. Goalkeepers & Defenders
Antonio Adan (GK) – Limited to just one appearance and one minute in La Liga this season, Adan is touted as a potential starter for the trip to Girona, as Simeone aims to keep his squad happy.
Juanfran (RB) – Juanfran returned to the Atletico side who faced Sevilla on the weekend, after missing two months of action with a calf injury.
Francisco Montero (CB) – Montero will be in line for his third start of the season, as the young Spanish defender attempts to work his way into Simeone’s plans. With much yet to prove it is another good opportunity for the youngster to impress.
Jose Gimenez (CB) – Established as a key part of the Atletico back line, Gimenez hasn’t featured since the 3-0 win over Deportivo Alaves in December. The Uruguayan has picked up a number of niggling injuries which have kept him on the sidelines but looks set to return.
Santiago Arias (LB) – Traditionally a right back, Arias has a job to do on Wednesday night. With Lucas and Filipe Luis injured, his versatility will be put to the test.
Thomas Partey (CDM) – Star man in the 1-1 draw with Sevilla on the weekend, Thomas Partey has been performing with great consistency this term. He has been most effective from central midfield, where he has scored and assisted two in 10 appearances. Looks set to take up a deeper role against Girona.
Saul Niquez (CM) – Saul hasn’t quite produced the goods when needed this season. Despite performing to a good level, Saul has managed just 1 assist in La Liga this term, and his sole club goal came in the UEFA Champions League.
Vitolo (CM) – With injuries mounting in the Atletico squad, bit part player Vitolo could be given the chance to showcase his abilities from the off..
Koke (CM) – Celebrating his 27th birthday on Tuesday, Koke will be hoping the birthday gods can grant him a goal or two. He’s managed four in all club competitions so far, but has registered just the one assist.
Antoine Greizmann (ST) – 12 in 24 says a lot. Coupled with a further eight assists, Greizmann has once again been on top form for Atletico. In fact, in his last three matches alone he has managed four goals and an assist. He has certaintly been Atletico’s star man this term and looks in great form heading into the Copa del Rey tie.
Angel Correa (ST) – Correa has featured in every league game for Atletico this term, however, has made just 11 starts. He has found goals and assists harder to come by, notching just two goals and one assists in La Liga this term. Another start here may kick-start his season.
