Napoli host Lazio in Sunday’s main Serie A game as the two sides face off at Stadio San Paolo.
The Partenopei will look to make it two wins from two in 2019, after beating Sassuolo 2-0 in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia.
Carlo Ancelotti is without Marek Hamsik and Vlad Chiriches through injury, and Kalidou Koulibaly, Lorenzo Insigne and Allan through suspension.
1. Goalkeeper and Defenders
Alex Meret (GK) – After being second choice to David Ospina all season, Meret is finally getting his opportunity for Napoli. Since recovering from a fractured arm he has made four Serie A starts this season, already keeping two clean sheets.
Elseid Hysaj (RB) – Napoli’s Albanian right back has been excellent this season, making 19 appearances this season for the Partenopei. It’ll be him or Kevin Malcuit on the right.
Nikola Maksimovic (CB) – With Koulibaly suspended for another game, Maksimovic will get another chance in defence. The Serbian on loan from Spartak Moscow has been impressive recently, as he prepares to make his 15th appearance of the season against Lazio.
Raul Albiol (CB) – As he has done 20 times this season, Albiol will play in the centre back partnership, though not alongside his usual partner. The 33-year-old Spaniard brings vast experience to the defence, which is crucial for Napoli.
Mario Rui (LB) – The ever present Rui is likely to play on Sunday. The Portuguese has played 19 times this season, registering one assist in the process, but also faces competition for a spot from Faouzi Ghoulam.
Adam Ounas (RM) – After impressing against Sassuolo, Ounas looks likely to retain his starting spot. The Algerian winger will make his 12th appearance of the season, as he begins to get more opportunities under Ancelotti.
Fabian Ruiz (CM) – Ruiz scored a beautiful goal last Sunday to secure Napoli’s place in the last eight of the Coppa Italia, so it would be no surprise to see him play again. He was fantastic in the cup and is certain to carry his form over into Serie A.
Piotr Zielinski (CM) – Zielinski will likely make up the midfield anchor alongside Ruiz on Sunday. The Polish midfielder has made 25 appearances this season, scoring three times for the Partenopei.
Jose Callejon (LM) – Despite having yet to find the back of the net this season, Callejon has still been key. He has registered more assists than anyone else in the Napoli squad, with eight to his name.
Arkadiusz Milik (FW) – Milik had a strong performance against Sassuolo last Sunday, getting a goal and assist. The Pole has scored 11 goals in 21 appearances, and will be eager to add to his goal tally when Lazio come to the Stadio San Paolo.
Dries Mertens (FW) – Milik and Mertens have scored a combined 22 goals, making up almost half of all of Napoli’s goals this season. The Belgian striker has been outstanding as per usual, as he has 11 goals and six assists this campaign.
