Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski could have left the German club only for Real Madrid, according to the player’s former agent Cezary Kucharski, who insisted that he only had the Pole’s best interests at heart.
Kucharski was Lewandowski’s agent for more than a decade, but the arrangement was ended by the player at the start of last year. The Polish international instead signed up with Pini Zahavi, who was central to Neymar’s world record move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona.
Despite the change in agent, Lewandowski’s dream move to Real Madrid did not materialize, and the former agent has suggested that the player only wanted to move to Spain despite getting offers from a number of other clubs.
“We could have fought for the transfer but there was a risk involved,” he said, according to AS.
“Our actions could have been insufficient to take him to Madrid or to sign a much more advantageous contract with Bayern. In football business, I never wanted to risk my client “
“He had a lot of options of clubs. The thing is that a move to France [PSG] did not suit his wife and they did not want to move to England. The only thing that counted for Robert was the Spanish sun, and Real Madrid.”
Kucharski suggested that any chance of Lewandowski moving to Madrid ended the moment he dropped him and signed up Zahavi.
“The minute Lewandowski’s connection with [new agent] Zahavi was announced, it was clear to me that there was no possibility of signing for Real Madrid.”
It remains to be seen if Lewandowski will be able to realize his dream, however that seems unlikely as the Pole is now 30 years old and Madrid would not want to spend on a player who will start to slow down in the next one or two years.
