Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will return to the Argentina set-up, but only in the provisional squad for the Copa America for now, claims a report in ESPN. The 30-year-old has not been called up to represent his country ever since their poor performance in the 2018 World Cup where they lost to eventual winners France in the round of 16.

However, Aguero has been in brilliant form for City this season, scoring 31 goals in 44 games in all competitions, with his performances reportedly impressing manager Lionel Scaloni who called the striker on Tuesday to tell him that he would be part of the initial group.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is set to announce a 40-man squad on Wednesday, before submitting their final 23-man selection for the tournament two weeks later. Alongside Aguero, Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria are also expected to be part of the squad.

This year’s Copa America is scheduled to take place in Brazil between 14th June to 7th of July, and will feature 10 South American teams as well as Qatar and Japan as guests. The La Albiceleste have been drawn in Group B alongside Colombia, Paraguay and Qatar.
