Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has come to the defence of his teammate Franck Ribery after the Frenchman lashed out on social media for all the abuse he got for the lavish way he spends his money.
Ribery was the subject of online criticism and abuse after he posted a video eating a golden steak, but the former France international did not hold back in his response and launched into an expletive-filled rant.
However, Muller has defended his teammate and insisted that the player gets a lot of abuse and is targeted repeatedly, while also revealing that Ribery is a very emotional person.
According to Goal, Muller said: “In those moments when he feels unfairly treated, where he is badly attacked, the horses go through with him and he just can not control himself.”
“He is a very emotional person, as he has experienced [criticism] so far in his entire career so far,” Muller continued. “But I think that it has become better in the course of his career, even if it is always such situations. It is also true that he is attacked a lot.”
“Of course you talk about it at the table, but it’s more of a private matter.”
It remains to be seen if this will have any impact on the team or on Ribery, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season, along with Arjen Robben, with both players having been at the club for a long and fruitful 12 years.
